Welcome to ASLI!

After 26 years, ASLI has reached the difficult decision to dissolve as an organization, with its funds and assets being absorbed into our fellow professional organization for earth sciences librarians, the Geoscience Information Society. This decision was not made lightly, and came only after numerous attempts to find a format ASLI could continue in.

For those not familiar with it, the Geoscience Information Society (GSIS) is a society for geoscience librarians and information professionals, as well as for librarians and information professionals across the earth sciences.

As part of the integration plans, GSIS has agreed to offer free 2026 membership to all paid current ASLI members; if you'd like to be added to the GSIS membership rolls, please email simms29@iu.edu. For non-currently paid-up ASLI members, the GSIS membership fee is $20 for the first year, and $25 after that for professionals, and is free to retirees and students. You can find more information on GSIS and register here. As part of the process of dissolving ASLI, this website will remain operational for one more year while we migrate web resources to the GSIS website. After January 1, 2027 this website will be sunsetted. At this time, we have no plans to take the ASLI listserv down, but we do encourage you to take advantage of GSIS's Geonet listserv. You do not have to be a GSIS member to join the listserv.

Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who built, maintained, and contributed to ASLI over the years. We hope to see you in the future as a part of GSIS.
